Storms and Hard Choices –HR Lessons of the Donner Party
In 1846, George Donner led a group of Midwestern farm families
to California. They got bad advice, took unfortunate risks,
were trapped in the Sierra Nevada - and many of the half
it resorted to cannibalism to survive. The presentation has
two parts – a chronology of the journey illustrated with Karl’s
award-winning images from the trail, combined with “lessons
learned” about HR practices and managing risk that can
be applied to modern organizations.
