Happy New Year and an Exciting 2018 to Come!

In December the IndySHRM Board of Directors invited Nancy Conway, SHRM-SCP, SHRM Field Services Director Central Division, to Indianapolis to lead a train the trainer session on strategic planning with the goal to revamp our strategic plan. We had an extremely productive meeting, and I am excited to share some of the outcomes with you our members.

IndySHRM's mission is to serve and advance the Human Resource profession in Central Indiana by developing strategic business partners through comprehensive programming and collaborative development opportunities. Our vision is to transform Human Resources throughout Central Indiana as the premier provider of human capital management resources.

To fulfill our mission and vision, we have identified three key initiatives for 2018.

  • Develop and execute a plan for maintaining, retaining, and recruiting passionate board and committee members.
  • Provide relevant, timely, SHRM Body of Competency and Knowledge (BoCK) aligned programs that people want to attend.
  • Increase Member Engagement
The Board of Directors and their committees are already working hard on these new initiatives. We appreciate and welcome our members' feedback which is vital to the board and allows us to move our chapter forward. If you are interested in being more involved in IndySHRM, I encourage you to attend our Networking Event on January 24th at The Blind Owl Brewery. Most board members will be present and can speak with you about committee involvement.

The SHRM Foundation is a values-based charity organization whose mission is to champion workforce and workplace transformation by providing research-based HR solutions for challenging inclusion issues facing current and potential employees, scholarships to educate and develop HR professionals to make change happen and opportunities for HR professionals to make a difference in their local communities. The SHRM Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizational affiliate of the Society for Human Resource Management.

2018 SHRM Certification Study Group

If you are interested in learning more about IndySHRM’s Spring 2018 SHRM Certification (SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP) study group…let us know!  Details are still TBD (those should be finalized just after the New Year!) – we anticipate the study group kicking off in mid-February and wrapping up mid-April for the May 1 – July 15, 2018 SHRM Certification exam testing window.  The 2018 SHRM Learning System will be included with the IndySHRM study group registration fee.

SHRM Certification – Spring Testing Window May 1 – July 15, 2018

Not one of the 2,408 SHRM Certified (SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP) individuals in Indiana yet?  SHRM Certification (SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP) exam applications will begin being accepted January 2 through March 23 (or applicants can pay a $75 late application fee for applications received between March 24 - April 13) for the May 1 – July 15, 2018 testing window.

2018 SHRM Certification (SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP) Scholarships

The certification scholarships application window will open on January 15.  In 2018, 220 certification scholarships will be delivered, with each scholarship winner receiving a $750 award.  (Spring) Deadline to apply: April 10, 2018

2017 SHRM Learning System Champion

Congratulations to IndySHRM for being recognized as a 2017 SHRM Learning System Champion at the SHRM Volunteer Leaders’ Summit (VLS) in Washington DC – yippee!

Put SHRM "Out Front"

Just a reminder, if you are SHRM Certified…put SHRM “out front” in your email signature (or on resumes or LI Profiles, etc.) – example: Jennifer Lange, SHRM-CP, PHR (listing the SHRM Certification after your name and before others).

Student Conference

SHRM Certification Student Eligibility

FYI, beginning with the 2017 Winter testing window (i.e. NOW), students enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s HR degree program at an educational institution aligned to SHRM’s curriculum guidelines are eligible to apply for the SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) exam.
